Which is cheaper, plane or car

Which is cheaper, plane or car?
Hi, I am trying to persuade my mom to let me take a plane down to Sarasota from Milwaukee. It is 1,313 miles. She gets 20MPG. What is the price of total gas? The roundtrip flights to Milwaukee and Sarasota is $231, and that would be 2626 miles total. So basically what I'm asking is the price for 2626 miles with 20MPG. Thanks in advance!

divide the number of miles by 20 then multiply the price of gas per gallon. off hand i would say you can't beat the roundtrip price.
2 :
it would be about 132 gallons of gas, at about $3 a gallon it would be cheaper to fly
3 :
Well at 20 MPG that means you will need 131.3 gallons of gas at about $3 a gallon so its $393.90 for gas averaging $3 a gallon.

its around 260 tanks of gas so multiply that by three so like $1000 gas, but you'll probably get better gas milage than 20 on the highway and so with that and the amount of money you save on luggage that you can take i would say car is cheaper, but since you got such a cheap flight (231$ roundtrip sounds fishy b/c its so cheap) i have to say flying is cheaper

With gas money, long distances are usually cheaper to fly unless booked at the last minute.

Hi Jason, it's good that you're thinking! Depending upon your age, I'd probably have tried to get you to do the simple gas math yourself, but others have gone ahead and given you some info. Here's some more things to consider.... The airfare is times 2 remember. Will you drive each way non-stop? If not what will a hotel cost? How about meals on the road? If you fly, will she need to rent a car in Sarasota or take taxis/limos? What's that car cost per day? Or taxi/limo costs? There's another potential cost in Milwaukee if you fly; can you guess it? Good luck running all the numbers; it's a very mature exercise to do! RJ
